Our family has always loved being in the outdoors and hiking. When the boys were little we hiked Bryce Canyon and Zions in one week-end. When we lived in Las Cruces NM we hiked everything there was to hike, and M1 was getting into rock climbing. This was all between the ages of 2 and 4 for them. We then moved to Albuquerque and did the same thing.
Then came our move to Las Vegas. And we stopped. This was a particularly rough patch for my family. Even though we were no longer hiking we were now playing our families new favorite sport Rugby. Then I got sick and everything stopped.
Last summer our family moved to Colorado and Mr. Lire decided that because we now live in the Rocky Mountains we need to take advantage of this and start hiking. Now did he start us off slow and then have us work our way up to a major hike. Nope. Mr. Lire has decided we are hiking a 14 thousander. And there is one right out our front door. Well not literally, but the street I live on faces this particular mountain so I see it everyday.
Because of this we are all now in training. Yes, even me with my herniated disc, blown out knee and bad foot. Mr. Lire claims it’s good for me, but I have my doubts. Regardless I am not committed to this hike. If nothing else maybe I will be able to get rid of this extra forty pounds I’ve packed on. So here begins the Lire Families adventure in hiking.
Every Monday I will post how the training is going for the entire family. And because I’m using this as a way to lose weight as well, I’ll post that as well.
